The movie is being created by Majic Pictures and in all will be approx 12 mins long. The movie is being made on a volunteer basis with the cost coming directly out of the movie makers pockets.
Below we have some production images and links to some of the visual effects being worked on.
The teaser trailer will be released in late March and we'll have it for you here.
Another Halo Movie Fan Trailer
Dec 13, 2010
Well since their doesn't seem to be any new news about the Halo Movie, I thought I would post up this fanmade trailer
to keep things going. Man its been over 4 years since I started this site and still no movie. So disappointing :(
Halo Movie Still Alive
May, 3, 2010
We'll it seems we missed a bit of news about the Halo movie that was announced last month. Luckly a dedicated Halo fan emailed us about it, so here is the latest.
Frank O'Connor, the Franchise Development Director at Microsoft's 343 Industries division announced the following at the MI6 Conference in San Francisco last month,
"We're going to make a movie when the time is right. We own the IP. If we want to make a movie, the scale of all the other stuff that we do changes dramatically. We make tens and tens of millions of dollars on ancillary stuff, toys, apparel, music and publishing. If we do a movie all of that will grow exponentially. We have some numbers if we do a movie, but it changes everything. It also changes our target and age demographic."
Not exactly a heart felt announcement, seems like MS is more worried about their profits then anything else. But at least it's good to hear they still plan on making the movie.
Halo Movie Trailer (Fan Made)
Oct, 2, 2009
We get a lot of emails from Halo fans wanting us to post their trailers on our site. Sometimes we do, but mostly we don't because most aren't very good. However, today we received a fan made trailer that uses a lot of commercial footage from Halo 3, ODST as well as other sources that I'm sure you'll all enjoy and will get you pumped for the actual Halo movie.
Well it's been a crazy few days with Halo movie news and rumors flying around.
First it was posted that Steven Spielberg was in talks to produce the Halo movie. Then 3 days ago Microsoft reponded saying that the movie is on hold until other Halo projects are finished.
I know you guys are excited to see a Halo movie get made, but there have been a LOT of possible producers, writers and directors "in talks" about making the movie. And so far none of them have panned out. So it looks like were back to square one.
I acutally hope Spielberg doesn't produce it after seeing Indy4.
Halo Movie Rumors
Mar 11, 2009
Sorry there haven't been any updates lately, not much news to report. However there is a rumor floating around that the movie will be released in 2010, but it's just a rumor.
Halo Movie News Update
Oct 29, 2008
Well its been quite some time since we have posted. Mainly due to not much new info coming out. But we've gathered all the new info we could find and have updated the site.
- The Halo Movie's current status is in production (imdb.com). Does that mean their filming, probably not, but it's better then the status being canceled.
- We've added a Halo 3 commerical to the video page, Halo 3 "Gravesite". This is one of the commerials we forgot to add.
- We've received some emails asking us if the video on YouTube called "Halo Movie: First 8 mins" is real. NO it is not real. They were 2 promotional movie shorts for when Halo 3 came out. The user simply added some opening credits. They can also be found oun our video page at the bottom.
Thats basically it, not much info has come out, but if anything new does we'll keep you updated.
Possible New Halo Script
Apr 2, 2008
Screenwriter Stuart Beattie, who most recently wrote the script for the G.I. Joe movie is also is a huge Halo fan. Frustruated with the lack of progress with the movie, he has taken it upon himself to re-write the script, for free, based on the novel HALO: FALL OF REACH, by Eric Nylund.
It's good to see someone doing something to get this movie going.
In the not so new, but new to me section, I've learned that Master Chief will NOT be the main character in the Halo movie.
Bungie Writing Director Joseph Staten in an interview with Level Up stated that Mater Chief will be a supporting character. Why?
"Where the Master Chief doesn't have a face... That's hard to carry as a main character for an entire film. But you can certainly surround him with people who don't have helmets on and you can see their faces."
I was a little surprised, but after letting it settle I actually think that's the right move.
Halo Movie Update
Jan, 24, 2008
I received a lot of email regarding the movie, so I will take the opprotunity to answer some of your questions.
Q: IMDB.com says the movie will be released in 2009, is that true?
A: No, this is purely a guess. The movie is not even shooting yet, but Microsoft is actively looking for distributer.
Q: I hear the movie is canceled, is that true?
A: No. There's a lot of negotiations going on with this movie which is why it is taking so long. Peter Jackson is currently working on other projects while Microsoft finds a distributer. However Microsoft has stated time and again that they want to make a Halo movie.
Q: Are you affiliated with Microsoft? How do you know this information?
A: No, we are a fan site. We get our information by checking press releases, news sites or it is submitted by fans. We then check the source and if we think its accurate we post it.
Halo Movie back in Pre-Production
Oct
31, 2007
Peter Jackson's representative
Ken Kamins has stated to Vanity
that the Halo film is still a
go for Microsoft. Microsoft is
already in talks with other distribution
projects to continue development
of the Halo film.
Kamins says, thanks to the involvement
of exec producers Peter Jackson
and Walsh the movie is still happening.
Most of the pre-production is
being done at their visual effects
studios in New Zealand, Weta Digital
and Weta Workshop, so there will
be no stalling.
"What happened was this:
Universal, on behalf of both studios,
asked for a meeting with the filmmakers
just prior to the due date of
a significant payment," says
Kamins.
"Basically, they said
that in order to move forward
with the film, the filmmakers
had to significantly reduce their
deals. They waited until the last
minute to have this conversation.
Peter and Fran, after speaking
with their producing partners
and with Microsoft and Bungie,
respectfully declined."
"Everybody is supremely
confident in Neal," Kamins
said. "Part of what excited
Peter and Fran was Neal's vision.
We're very confident this film
will move forward with the creative
partners intact, who will take
the film to production."
So it looks as those Neill Blomkamp
is still onboard to be director
of the Halo movie and it again
has some traction.

More Halo 3 "Believe"
short movies
Sept
26, 2007
We've
added 3 more movies to our video's
page. Each one is part of the "Believe"
campaign for Halo 3. If this is
any indication of what the Halo
movie might be like, then all I
can say is its going to be one hell
of a movie.
Halo 3 - Making Of the Believe
Diorama
Sept
18, 2007
We have another
video for you today. This is
the making of the Diorama that
has been in the Halo 3 Believe
commercials. The video is not
your typical "Making of"
video as stays in the Halo Universe.
Watch and you'll see what I
mean.
Halo Short Movie #2 Part

Halo Short - Secret Movie Footage?
July
12, 2007
The Halo community has been a
buzz the last day over this Halo
short movie for Halo 3. It's a
collaboration between Bungie Studios,
director Neill Blomkamp, WETA
Workshop and Origami Digital.
One of a series of Halo shorts.
Can it be actually movie footage?
Probably not, but this at least
is something while we wait.
Halo Movie picked up by FOX
June
23, 2007
FOX has recently acquired licensing
rights for the Halo movie. A big,
big step towards finally getting
the movie going. Peter Jackson
has also continued his backing
of Neill Blomkamp as the director
saying:
"We wouldn't want to
do it with anyone else. It's Neill's
call."
Well it looks like finally things
are moving in the right direction.
Summer 2009. Only 2 more years,
maybe:)
Not much Halo news recently
Feb
06th, 2007
There doesn't seem to be much
new news about the Halo Movie
in some time now. I guess Microsoft
and Bungie are working on getting
things going again. I just wanted
to let you guys know were still
here and as soon as we here something
about the Halo the movie we'll
let you know.
Halo Movie is alive and kicking
Nov
11th, 2006
With the recent departure of
Univeral and Fox, Microsoft is
now shopping around for new partners.
According to Variety, Microsoft
is focusing their partnering efforts
on Warner Bros. and Paramount,
although nothing is definite yet.
Other rumors have Microsoft funding
the entire movie themselves. Either
way it looks like this movie is
going to get made one way or another.
Universal Studios and Fox drop
Halo Movie, but Halo
is still a go according to Microsoft/Bungie
Oct
21st, 2006
This week some big news has surfaced
about the Halo movie. First Universal
Studios and Fox pulled their support
for the Halo movie due to production
costs. The budget originally estimated
was $135 million, but it has been
rumored that it will cost $200
million. That and the studios
are unsure of first time director
Neil Blomkamp,
On the upside, Bungie has stated
"Peter Jackson, Fran
Walsh and the rest of the creative
team are dedicated to ensuring
the Halo movie becomes a reality.
We are already in discussions
with potential partners who recognize
the value of the Halo brand and
its appeal to consumers worldwide.
Well looks like we'll have to
wait a bit longer for the movie,
but at least its still being made.
Halo Director Official Announced
Aug
12, 2006
Halo the Movie will be directed
by first time director Neill Blomkamp.
Neill has directed a few short
films and commercials before,
but this is his first major movie.
A native of South Africa, Blomkamp
directed the acclaimed 2005 short
film, Alive in Joburg, that depicted
a future in which extraterrestrials
have become refugees. Last year,
Blomkamp also received three Clio
Awards and a Visual Effects Society
Award for his television commercial
Citroen-Alive with Technology.
In 2004, Blomkamp was recognized
as "One of the Top Five Directors
to Watch" at the First Boards
Awards and was a featured artist
at the Saatchi & Saatchi New
Directors Showcase at Cannes.
He has also been nominated for
an Emmy award for his work on
an episode of James Cameron's
Dark Angel.
Halo Script Trashed! Denzel
as Master Chief?
July
17th, 2006
Well it official, Halo is getting
a script rewrite by D.B. Weiss.
Weiss, who has never written a
Hollywood screenplay before had
this to say,
"There will be the 5%
on the fringe of any hardcore
fanbase that get angry about any
change you make to the source
material. The truth is that novels,
games, comics, and what-have-you
are not usually ready to be slapped
up on screen as-is. If you did
do a 100% faithful version, 999
times out of 1000 it would be
a mess."
So rumors were correct, the
Halo movie is now delayed to 2008.
Other rumors are now springing
up that Denzel Washington will
be playing Master Chief. This
rumor is coming after the Associated
Press reported that Denzel had
met with Halo Executive Producer
Peter Jackson in New Zealand about
the two working together, possibly
with Washington directing another
Jackson-produced film that Weta
would do the visual effects for.
Denzel as Master Chief? I could
see that.
Halo Movie Delayed?
June
6th, 2006
Rumors
have been spreading that the Halo
movie will not be released next
summer, instead sometime in 2008.
This is not definite, but the date
has been changed from 2007 to 2008
on IMBD.com. Hopefully Bungie will
have an update soon and get this
straightened out.

Bungie Team in New Zealand
April
22, 2006
No
news from the Halo movie yet. We
do know that Joe Staten and studio
manager Harold Ryan are talking
to Peter Jackson right now in New
Zealand, but as for actual announcements,
none until the studio is ready to
make them
Director removed from Halo
Movie?
April
15, 2006
Guillermo
Del Toro is no longer listed as
the director of the Halo Movie on
IMDB.com. Perhaps Ridley Scott has
accepted or even better maybe Peter
Jackson might direct. In other news,
studio manager Harold Ryan and Joe
of Bungie are headed to New Zealand
within 2 weeks, no doubt this has
something to do with the movie.
We should know more in two weeks.
Ridley Scott to Direct Halo
Movie?
April 2, 2006
There
are rumors about that Ridely Scott
has been asked to direct the Movie,
but has not accpeted yet. Currently
it looks as though the front runner
to direct Halo is Guillermo Del
Toro, director of Hellboy and Blade
II. Also rumors say Ed Harris will
play Master Chief or Captain Keyes
and Samuel L. Jackson as Sergeant
Johnson . Not too shaby.
Halo Movie Release Date
April 2, 2006
The
Halo movie, which is being produced
by Universal and 20th Century Fox,
is rumored to start principle shooting
in Wellington, New Zealand this
May. The movie is set to be release
in the summer of 2007.
Halo and Peter Jackson
April 2, 2006
Peter
Jackson, director of Lord of the
Rings and King Kong, has been named
as one of the Executive Producers
of the Halo Movie. To bad he's not
directing it also.
